Antoine Doinel – věk 26 let. Ženatý s Christine, učitelkou hudby. Čekají dítě. Ve svém novém zaměstnání se Antoine setkává s femme fatale – šarmantní japonkou Kyoto, která jej okouzlí, a především osvobodí od trivialit manželského života.
