Muovisessa Tarvillen kaupungissa, josta oikeat puut ja kasvit ovat hävinneet, asuu 12-vuotias Ted, joka haluaa voittaa unelmiensa tytön sydämen puolelleen. Audreyn suurin unelma on nähdä oikea puu, joten Tedin on löydettävä aito Truffula-puun siemen. Tutkimusmatkallaan Ted tapaa vanhan keksijä Kerskasen, jolla on tarina kerrottavanaan siitä, mihin Truffula-puut ovat kadonneet.
