Synopsis
Stoddard, un jeune avocat, vient de s'installer dans l'Ouest, dans une région qui vit sous la terreur du bandit Liberty Valance. Celui-ci ne tarde pas à s'en prendre à Stoddard, sauvé in extremis du lynchage par Tom, le seul à qui Valance ne fait pas peur. Résolu à combattre la violence par la loi et l'éducation, Stoddard s'oppose ouvertement à Valance...
