Trama
Apu vive a Calcutta, ha dovuto smettere di studiare per difficoltà economiche e non riesce a trovare lavoro. Si sposa con Apurna che morirà nel dare alla luce un bambino mentre lui è altrove. Apu, disperato, cercherà di ritrovare il figlio. Nel frattempo è stato assunto come operaio in una fabbrica.
