Overzicht
Na de Eerste Wereldoorlog is Mussolini's kijk op het leven sterk veranderd; ooit een eigenzinnige socialistische hervormer, nu geobsedeerd door het idee van macht, richt hij in 1921 de Nationale Fascistische Partij op en neemt hij in 1922 de politieke macht over en wordt hij de Duce, dictator van Italië. Zijn succes moedigt Hitler aan om in 1933 de macht in Duitsland over te nemen, waardoor de donkere weg naar de Tweede Wereldoorlog wordt geopend.
