Wbrew stereotypowemu myśleniu nazistowskie kino niemal nie realizowało filmów ideologicznych, a tworzyło szeroką gamę filmów rozrywkowych na światowym poziomie, posługując się własnym systemem promowania gwiazd filmowych. Między 1933 a 1945 roku powstało około 1000 filmów, które pod czujnym okiem Goebbelsa dawały Niemcom wytchnienie od dnia codziennego, tylko z rzadka mobilizując ich do walki.
