Polarforskaren Ernest Shackleton ville bli den första att korsa den outforskade kontinenten Antarktis. Med en besättning på 28 man avseglade fartyget Endurance 1914 med destination Sydpolen. Pionjärerna ver den tidens stora hjältar och de hade med sig en filmkamera för att dokumentera sin expedition för en hänförd omvärld.
