简介
亨利·塞林（Henri Serin）是一名雨伞销售代表，住在索穆尔（Saumur），他对自己的生活感到厌倦。与他不同，他娶了一个不爱别人、脾气暴躁的妻子，妻子对性没有兴趣，他也被孩子们拒绝了。因此，他大部分时间都在城镇之间旅行，与女性调情，并在酒店、餐馆、商店和他参观的地方会见各种各样的人。他还涉猎绘画，尤其是肖像画。当他开车穿过布列塔尼时，他的车坏了，他遇到了一个粗鲁、满嘴脏话的画家，他提出让他住在阿文桥附近的家里。在那里，亨利爱上了画家的模特兼风流韵事安吉拉，很快他们就私奔了。。。
